The Santa Fe Institute is the founding home of complexity science: a trans-disciplinary research center studying how complex adaptive systems — cells, brains, markets, cities, ecosystems — self-organize across scales. Scaling theory (Geoffrey West’s laws for organisms and cities), agent-based modeling, networks, and emergence all run through here. It’s the institution behind my bet that complexity science is in its founding era right now — the field where the giants still get minted cheap.
